Oman Participates in GCC Coordination Meeting

The Sultanate of Oman participated in a coordination meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, commonly known as the Gulf Cooperation Council or GCC, in New York on September 21, 2026.The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations. It took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, bringing representatives of the GCC member states together for discussions on issues of common interest.

Oman Represented by Permanent Representative to UN

Oman was represented at the meeting by His Excellency Ambassador Omar bin Said Al Kathiri, the Sultanate's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain. Bahrain is currently chairing the session of the GCC Ministerial Council.Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, also participated in the meeting along with representatives of the GCC member states.

GCC Countries Coordinate Positions Ahead of UNGA

A key focus of the meeting was coordination among GCC countries ahead of discussions during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.The participants reviewed prominent issues of common interest and discussed positions on topics expected to be addressed during the UN General Assembly session.Such coordination provides GCC member states with an opportunity to exchange views and prepare for diplomatic discussions involving other countries and international organisations.

Participants also discussed the implications of changing regional and international circumstances for GCC countries.The meeting provided a platform for representatives to share perspectives and coordinate approaches to current diplomatic challenges.

Oman and GCC Cooperation
