Pakistan Faces Tough Challenge To Reach Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 Final

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Pakistan cricket fans are worried after the team lost to India by six wickets on Sunday in the Asia Cup 2025. This defeat has made Pakistan’s chances of reaching the Super 4 final more difficult. Pakistan’s next match is against Sri Lanka on Tuesday at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Winning this game is very important for Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the final.

Current Super 4 Standings

After defeating Pakistan twice in the tournament, India is at the top of the Super 4 table with two points and a net run rate (NRR) of +0.689. Only the top two teams from the Super 4 stage will qualify for the final. Bangladesh is in second place after winning against Sri Lanka, holding an NRR of +0.121. Sri Lanka and Pakistan are currently third and fourth with zero points each, having lost one match so far.

India’s Remaining Matches

India still has two more matches to play in the Super 4 stage — against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Experts believe India is likely to win both matches. Even if India wins only one of these matches, they will reach four points, which should be enough to secure a spot in the final. This makes Pakistan’s path to the final very challenging.

Pakistan’s Path To The Final

Pakistan must win its next two matches to stay in the race for the final. The first step is defeating Sri Lanka on Tuesday. After that, Pakistan needs to beat Bangladesh in its last Super 4 match. Even if Pakistan loses to Sri Lanka, they are not immediately eliminated. But their qualification will then depend on India winning against both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Risks Of Losing To Sri Lanka

If Pakistan loses to Sri Lanka, they can only earn a maximum of two points by winning against Bangladesh later. Meanwhile, if Sri Lanka or Bangladesh wins against India, those teams will get at least four points. This scenario would eliminate Pakistan from the tournament. Therefore, every match is crucial for Pakistan’s hopes in the Asia Cup 2025.

Best Scenario For Pakistan

The safest way for Pakistan to reach the final is by winning both of its remaining matches. Beating Sri Lanka first is very important to stay in contention. A win against Bangladesh later will secure their place in the final. Pakistan fans are hoping their team can perform well in these critical matches and turn their Super 4 campaign around.
