The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has strongly condemned the suicide bombing at a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan, on 6 February 2026, which killed at least 32 people and injured 92 others.
In a statement from Council President James Kariuki (UK), members described the attack — claimed by ISIL (Da’esh) — as a “heinous and cowardly act.” The Council extended deep condolences to the victims’ families and wished a full recovery to the injured.
The UNSC reaffirmed that terrorism in all forms is a serious threat to international peace and security. Members stressed the importance of holding the attackers, planners, and financiers accountable under international law.
The Council also called on all countries to cooperate with Pakistan to ensure justice and prevent perpetrators from evading punishment. It highlighted that terrorism is criminal and unjustifiable, and global efforts must continue to combat it in line with the UN Charter.
