While the picturesque Dhauladhar mountains often captivate visitors at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, it was Rajat Patidar who stole the spotlight on Tuesday night, showcasing a brilliant display to lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru into the IPL final.
With an outstanding performance, Patidar scored an unbeaten 93 runs off just 33 balls, leading RCB to a victory over Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1. His remarkable innings featured five fours and nine sixes, boasting a staggering strike rate of 281.82.
This win marks RCB's entry into their second consecutive IPL final, reinforcing their hopes of securing another title.
Patidar has consistently excelled in IPL playoffs, amassing 338 runs across six innings at an impressive average of 112.66, along with a strike rate of 193.14, inclusive of one century and two fifties.
His notable 112 against the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2022 Eliminator remains a highlight in RCB's IPL history.
At 32, he has emerged as a formidable force in IPL playoff matches, smashing 24 sixes, ranking just behind legends like Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, and Kieron Pollard.
This season has been especially fruitful for Patidar, with 486 runs in 13 innings, averaging 44.18 and a prodigious strike rate of 196.76, which includes five fifties and his highest score of 93 not out, alongside 41 sixes and 29 fours.
Patidar emphasized his team’s positive attitude after the match: “It was a super game for us. The batsmen played with aggressive intent, which was crucial,” he stated.
He discussed how the team’s pre-game focus was on confidence and taking aggressive action from the outset: “We aimed for strong body language and an attacking approach since it was a crucial match. Our dominance was commendable,” he added.
Regarding his batting strategy, Patidar mentioned that he prefers assessing the pitch first before launching his onslaught against the bowlers: “I generally take around 8-10 balls to gauge the wicket before applying pressure on the bowlers,” he explained.
Gujarat Titans’ Glenn Phillips also recognized Patidar’s remarkable innings, calling him a formidable player during his prime: “He is exceptional. When he’s on a roll, it’s tough to contain him. He's aware of his strengths and plays with unmatched confidence,” Phillips noted.
As RCB approaches the IPL final, they are buoyed by the statistic that the winner of Qualifier 1 has claimed the IPL title 12 times in 15 seasons, fueling Patidar and his team’s confidence.
