Taal Volcano Experiences Second Eruption in One Day

Taal Volcano Experiences Second Eruption in One Day

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has announced that Taal Volcano witnessed a second minor phreatomagmatic eruption from its Main Crater on Tuesday evening.

This eruption began at 8:09 p.m. and persisted for around four minutes, confirmed through various monitoring techniques including seismic, infrasound, and thermal imaging.

Plumes Reached Impressive Heights

PHIVOLCS reported that the eruption generated powerful jets of ash and steam that ascended approximately 2,800 meters above the Main Crater.

According to the agency, "The event produced jets of ash and steam-rich plumes that rose 2800 meters above the crater. These thermal camera footages were captured by the Daang Kastila (VTDK) and Main Crater (VTMC) thermal camera observation stations on Taal Volcano Island."

The occurrence was meticulously documented using thermal cameras installed at the Daang Kastila (VTDK) and Main Crater (VTMC) observation sites on the volcano's island.

Additional Eruption Earlier in the Day

Earlier on Tuesday, PHIVOLCS also detected a minor phreatomagmatic eruption at 2:29 p.m., which lasted for about three minutes.

This evening's event marked the second instance of phreatomagmatic activity recorded at Taal Volcano’s Main Crater on the same day.
