President To Lam Commemorates Ho Chi Minh in Singapore

Post by : Shakul

During his official trip to Singapore, Vietnamese President To Lam paid homage to Ho Chi Minh, reaffirming Vietnam’s dedication to its revolutionary heritage and strengthening international ties. The tribute took place at the esteemed Asian Civilisations Museum on May 30.

Accompanied by his wife and a delegation of high-ranking officials, he laid a wreath at the statue and memorial plaque dedicated to Ho Chi Minh, as part of his visit and participation in the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue, a key diplomatic and security event in Asia.

As a mark of respect, President To Lam and his delegation observed a moment of silence to honor Ho Chi Minh, the founding leader of modern Vietnam. This ceremony underscored the nation's respect for his pivotal role in independence, development, and global solidarity.

The statue, situated prominently at the Asian Civilisations Museum, stands with other monuments honoring notable Asian leaders. It signifies the firm friendship shared between Vietnam and Singapore.

The memorial plaque dedicated to Ho Chi Minh was inaugurated in May 2008 to celebrate the 118th anniversary of his birth alongside the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, welcomed as a symbol of their growing partnership.

Building on this legacy, the Vietnamese Embassy and local heritage advocates proposed a permanent statue, unveiled in September 2011, which continues to be an important site for reflection and cultural exchange.

President To Lam’s visit underscores the ongoing collaboration between Vietnam and Singapore in various sectors, emphasizing the necessity for robust ties amidst evolving global dynamics.

Set along the historic Singapore River, the Asian Civilisations Museum embodies a connection between diverse cultures across Asia. Ho Chi Minh’s statue within this space reflects the deepening trust and mutual respect that characterize Vietnam-Singapore relations.
