Court Mandates Psychiatric Assessment in Murder Investigation

Post by : Shakul

In Kota Kinabalu, a court has mandated a psychiatric assessment for a 71-year-old individual accused of the shocking murder and dismemberment of his former fiancée. This decision comes amid ongoing legal actions that have deeply unsettled the local community.

The individual, Piluta Samad, is to undergo a 30-day mental evaluation at Hospital Mesra Bukit Padang. Following a plea from the defense team, which expressed concerns regarding his mental state, the magistrate approved the order.

Defense attorneys emphasized the necessity for a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation to assess the accused's mental health. The court also indicated it might extend the assessment period by an additional 30 days if warranted.

Although the prosecution opposed this request, they noted that crucial reports, such as a chemist's analysis and post-mortem results, are still outstanding. These documents are anticipated to significantly influence the ongoing investigation.

Piluta Samad is charged with the murder of his 44-year-old ex-fiancée in February 2026 at a residence in Kampung Sri Kenangan. The case attracted considerable media attention after remains of the victim were allegedly found scattered across various sites.

The charge falls under Section 302 of Malaysia’s Penal Code, carrying severe consequences, including death or lengthy imprisonment. Even if the death penalty is not imposed, the accused may face corporal punishment if found guilty.

The next court hearing is set for May 15, 2026, with the accused remaining in custody. The case is expected to advance to the High Court for formal plea proceedings.
