A Punjabi radio and TV presenter has been handed a sentence of five and a half years in prison in Canada following his conviction in a prominent methamphetamine smuggling case.
Sukhvinder Kaur Sangha, who is 47 years old, was sentenced by Justice John Gibb-Carsley in the British Columbia Supreme Court on April 10, 2026. The incident linked to this case occurred on October 18, 2021, at the Pacific Border Crossing.
Court documents reveal that Sangha was attempting to enter Canada from the United States when Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers directed her for a secondary inspection. Instead of cooperating, she attempted to flee at high speed, leading to a chase by enforcement officials.
Authorities managed to stop and detain her. A search of her rental vehicle uncovered about 108 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in duffle bags in the trunk. The discovery pointed to a large-scale drug trafficking operation rather than just a minor offense.
The seriousness of the crime was noted by the court, including the volume of the drug seizure and Sangha's attempt to escape law enforcement. Methamphetamine is a particularly hazardous drug, and cases involving such significant quantities are regarded as serious threats to public safety.
