Qatar Joins GCC Canada Talks Amid Regional Tensions

The State of Qatar participated in the joint ministerial meeting of the GCC-Canada Strategic Dialogue held in Manama, Bahrain, as Gulf nations and Canada explored ways to strengthen cooperation across a range of strategic sectors. The Qatari delegation was led by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.

Focus on Economic and Commercial Cooperation

During the meeting, ministers discussed opportunities to deepen economic and commercial partnerships between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Canada. Both sides highlighted the importance of expanding trade, encouraging investment and promoting cooperation in sectors that can contribute to sustainable economic growth.

Regional Security Takes Center Stage

A significant part of the discussions focused on the evolving security situation in the Middle East. Participants reviewed recent regional developments and assessed their impact on stability, peace and economic activities across the Gulf region and beyond.

Maritime Security and Global Trade Routes

The ministers stressed the importance of protecting international maritime routes and ensuring freedom of navigation. The meeting emphasized the need for stronger international coordination to secure critical shipping lanes and safeguard global trade amid growing geopolitical challenges.

Condemnation of Regional Attacks

The GCC countries and Canada also addressed recent attacks targeting several countries in the region. Participants expressed strong condemnation of attacks against Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, describing them as actions that threaten regional peace and security.

Call for Stability and Diplomatic Solutions

The meeting underscored the need for diplomatic engagement and collective efforts to prevent further escalation in the region. Officials highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation as essential tools for maintaining regional and international stability.
