Teenager Vaibhav Suryavanshi Urged Into India Senior Cricket Team

Post by : Mumtaaz Qadiri

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old cricket prodigy from Bihar, has been making headlines with his record-breaking performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and youth international cricket. His remarkable talent has prompted calls for him to join the senior Indian cricket team immediately.

IPL Stardom and Record-Breaking Feats

Suryavanshi became the youngest player to sign an IPL contract at just 13 years old with Rajasthan Royals, receiving Rs 1.1 crore. In the 2025 IPL season, he scored the fastest hundred by an Indian, reaching the milestone in only 35 balls against Gujarat Titans. His explosive batting style has made him a fan favorite and a topic of discussion among cricket experts.

Youth International Success

After the IPL, Suryavanshi continued his exceptional form in youth cricket. He scored the fastest century in youth ODIs against England at Worcester and had previously scored a 58-ball hundred in a four-day game against Australia Under-19. Despite these feats, he has not yet played for the India A side, though he frequently travels with the U19 team.

Call for Senior Team Fast-Tracking

Zubin Barucha, Director of High Performance at Rajasthan Royals, has urged the Indian selectors to fast-track Suryavanshi into the senior team or at least the India A side, comparing him to cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at 16. Barucha said, “He should be blooded into the senior team immediately, like Sachin was all those years ago. This boy is in another zone.”

Evidence of Exceptional Talent

Barucha recalled Suryavanshi’s incredible net session against England pacer Jofra Archer. Archer, known for his fast, aggressive bowling, had previously overwhelmed top players like Steve Smith during practice sessions. However, Suryavanshi reportedly hit a back-foot shot that cleared the stadium, stunning the coaching staff and Archer alike. Barucha said, “All the coaching staff, even Jofra, were stunned.”

Support for India A Tour

Barucha emphasized that even exposure with India A would be beneficial, allowing Suryavanshi to face top-level bowlers and gain experience. “At least send him on an India A tour. He would have scored a double hundred against this Australian attack,” he stated, highlighting the prodigy’s potential to dominate even professional bowlers.

Future Prospects and Expectations

Suryavanshi’s achievements at such a young age have created high expectations. Cricket analysts, fans, and team officials are closely watching his progress, hoping he can continue to excel on bigger stages. If given the opportunity, he could follow in the footsteps of Tendulkar and become a major force in Indian cricket.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s extraordinary talent and early accomplishments suggest a bright future ahead. With senior team selection advocates urging action, the young prodigy may soon transition from youth cricket to international stardom, potentially reshaping India’s cricket landscape for years to come.
