This year marks Rajinikanth’s 50th year in films, celebrated widely including at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, where he received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin also shared heartfelt greetings, praising Rajinikanth’s enduring charm and calling him a friend and the eternal “Thalaiva.”
Born Shivaji Rao Gaekwad on December 12, 1950, Rajinikanth rose from a bus conductor in Bengaluru to become one of Asia’s most influential entertainers. His debut in Apoorva Raagangal (1975) was followed by hits such as Moondru Mudichu, Mullum Malarum, Billa, Moondru Mugam, and Padikkadavan, where his unique style and screen presence turned him into a cultural icon.
The 1990s solidified his superstar status with films like Annamalai, Baashha, Muthu, and Padayappa. Muthu became a global success, especially in Japan, earning him fans across the world. In the 2000s and 2010s, he led major blockbusters such as Chandramukhi, Sivaji, Enthiran, and 2.0, setting new technical and commercial standards in Indian films.
Beyond cinema, Rajinikanth is celebrated for his humility, spiritual outlook, and strong bond with fans. His contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, solidifying his status as a true icon of Indian entertainment.
