Rangers Return Mahle in Crucial Series Against Marlins

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Texas Rangers will see one of their top pitchers, Tyler Mahle, back on the mound when they host the Miami Marlins in Arlington on Friday. Mahle has been sidelined since June 10 with shoulder fatigue, and his return comes at a critical time as Texas attempts to stay in the race for a wild-card spot.

Rangers Face Tough Postseason Push

The Rangers, with only nine games remaining, are struggling to make a final push for the playoffs. They enter the three-game series against Miami on a four-game losing streak, including a sweep at the hands of the Houston Astros. Texas trails both Houston and Seattle by five games in the American League West and faces stiff competition in the wild-card standings.

Manager and Players Acknowledge the Challenge

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy stressed the urgency of the situation. "We know our backs are to the wall. Now we have to look at it like we have nothing to lose. Go out there and give it everything we got," he said. Designated hitter Joc Pederson added, "We kind of have to play perfect on the way out just to have a fighting chance. It sucks, but it is what it is."

Tyler Mahle’s Form and Usage

Before his injury, Mahle struggled in his final two starts in June, allowing four runs in 11 innings, but earlier in the season, he had consistently limited opponents. In four career starts against the Marlins, Mahle holds a 1-2 record with a 2.74 ERA. To manage his workload, Bochy plans to limit him to 75 pitches in Friday’s opener.

Miami Marlins Prepare to Counter

The Marlins, riding a seven-win streak in eight games, will send right-hander Janson Junk to the mound. Junk has struggled recently, posting a 0-1 record over his last five starts since Aug. 6, but he has shown signs of recovery, most recently allowing three runs over six innings in a win against Detroit. Miami manager Clayton McCullough praised Junk’s contributions, noting his ability to give the team a solid middle-game performance.

Series Outlook and Remaining Schedule

After facing Miami and Minnesota at home, the Rangers will close the regular season with a three-game series at Cleveland. The team must perform near perfectly in these final games to have a chance at the playoffs, making Mahle’s return both timely and crucial for Texas’ postseason hopes.
