This week, the Dubai International Aquatics Championships 2026 wrapped up at the Hamdan Sports Complex, further establishing Dubai’s reputation as a prime location for elite swimming competitions and a vital qualifying event for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
Co-organized by the UAE Swimming Federation and the Dubai Sports Council, the four-day event—recognized by World Aquatics—brought together over 1,600 athletes from 100 countries. More than 80 international clubs and academies participated in nearly 200 events, showcasing elite competition and the rising standards in the sport worldwide.
Incredible Performances and New Records
The championship saw outstanding performances, with 10 new tournament records achieved. A standout moment for the UAE was swimmer Hamad Al Shehhi, who set a new national record in the 50-meter freestyle, garnering enthusiastic support from the local crowd.
Apart from the medals awarded, the event functioned as a recognized qualification platform. Times recorded during this championship are now internationally acknowledged, providing young athletes with essential opportunities for Olympic qualification and major global events.
