Indoor Charcoal Heating Alert from Abu Dhabi Police

Indoor Charcoal Heating Alert from Abu Dhabi Police

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The Abu Dhabi Police have issued a stern warning following five suffocation incidents in the UAE associated with hazardous indoor heating practices using charcoal and firewood. This serves as a crucial reminder of the risks tied to improper winter heating.

Emergency services acted quickly in all reported cases, ensuring that no loss of life occurred. These incidents were promptly managed by specialized teams committed to maintaining public safety during winter months.

Major General Mohammed Suhail Al Rashdi, head of the Criminal Security Sector at Abu Dhabi Police, emphasized the inherent dangers of utilizing traditional heating methods indoors without necessary safety precautions. He warned that burning charcoal or firewood in enclosed spaces can rapidly accumulate toxic gases, posing severe risks to health.

This cautionary notice aligns with the authorities’ winter awareness campaign, “Our Winter is Safe and Enjoyable,” which aims to educate the public regarding seasonal threats including those related to heating methods. Residents are advised against using charcoal, firewood, or unverified electrical heaters indoors unless safety measures are strictly followed.

Abu Dhabi Police have urged residents to maintain proper ventilation whenever heating equipment is in use and to ensure that heaters are turned off or extinguished before sleeping or leaving their homes. They also encouraged families to use only approved and well-maintained heating devices, and to regularly check their smoke alarms and safety systems.

Officials reiterated the importance of public cooperation to prevent accidents related to winter heating and encouraged the community to report any unsafe practices to help safeguard lives and property throughout the UAE.
