Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead at their Brentwood home in Los Angeles. TMZ reported that the 78-year-old director and his 68-year-old wife had knife wounds on their bodies. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Division is investigating the case.
Rob Reiner was a veteran actor and director with a career spanning more than five decades. Born in 1947 in New York City, he was the son of actor and comedian Carl Reiner. Rob began his career in local theatre and gained fame in 1970 as Michael Stivic on Norman Lear’s hit sitcom All in the Family, winning two Emmy Awards during his nine-season run.
While Rob started as an actor, he later turned to direction, creating some of his most famous films. His directorial debut was the 1984 mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, followed by acclaimed films including Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally… (1989), Misery (1990), and A Few Good Men (1992), the last of which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. Rob also earned four Golden Globe nominations for Best Director.
In addition to directing, Rob appeared in small roles in films like Sleepless in Seattle and The Wolf of Wall Street. His final film, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, a sequel to his debut, was released just three months before his death.
Michele Singer Reiner, a former photographer, shared a life with Rob both personally and publicly. The tragic deaths of the couple have shocked Hollywood and fans worldwide. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and have not yet disclosed additional details about the case.
