RTA Reports 2.8 Million Passengers for New Year Celebrations 2026

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai reported successfully transporting over 2.8 million individuals during the New Year’s Eve celebrations of 2026, achieving a significant ridership increase of 13% compared to the prior year.

This uptick in numbers was made possible through a well-planned traffic and operational scheme, developed in close collaboration with the Dubai Event Security Committee, relevant authorities, and partners. The strategy included effective traffic management, temporary road closures, and improved public transport options throughout the city.

Data shows that the various public transport options including taxis, e-hailing services, marine transport, and shared mobility made a total of 2,836,859 passenger journeys, up from 2,502,474 on New Year’s Eve 2025.

The Dubai Metro was the preferred choice, carrying 1,249,636 travelers on both the Red and Green Lines. The Dubai Tram serviced 58,052 passengers, while public buses and bus-on-demand solutions recorded 503,264 users.

Taxi services transported a robust 661,538 passengers during peak celebration times. Marine transport served 76,745 individuals, and e-hailing services accounted for 286,135 trips. Furthermore, shared mobility options catered to 1,489 users.

The RTA emphasized that the effective implementation of their operational strategy guaranteed a safe and smooth flow of residents and visitors to various celebration sites, reinforcing Dubai's standing as a city adept at hosting large-scale events while adhering to high international safety and efficiency standards.
