Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has finalized extensive traffic enhancement projects along Al Warqa’a 1 Street, managing a span of 7 kilometres in both directions from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to Ras Al Khor Road. The initiative aims to bolster traffic efficiency, enhance safety, and facilitate daily movements for locals.
The development includes the transformation of four roundabouts into state-of-the-art signalised intersections, projected to boost traffic efficiency by as much as 30 percent. These upgrades are part of RTA’s continuous commitment to elevating the functionality of Dubai’s roadway system and enriching the living experience.
RTA has also undertaken significant infrastructure enhancements, building 6,600 metres of sophisticated stormwater drainage systems, erecting 324 contemporary street lighting poles, and introducing 111 additional parking spots. Moreover, pedestrian pathways covering an area of 41,000 square metres have been established to ensure enhanced safety for both pedestrians and vehicular traffic.
Hamad Al Shehhi, the Director of Roads at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, noted that this project is rooted in prior initiatives accomplished in June 2025, which created direct access points linking Al Warqa’a to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Earlier upgrades also covered 13th Street in Al Warqa’a 1, spanning approximately 8 kilometres, thus benefitting local communities and schools.
Al Shehhi emphasized RTA’s dedication to developing a cohesive infrastructure, which encompasses roads, lighting, and drainage systems, to adapt to Dubai’s increasing populace and urban development. Such initiatives align with Dubai’s vision for a smart, sustainable city that prioritizes the well-being and happiness of its citizens.
In parallel, RTA is focusing on upgrades within the internal road networks of Al Warqa’a 3 and Al Warqa’a 4. Planned upgrades include road surfacing, pedestrian pathways, parking provision, and cycling lanes to enhance connectivity and foster sustainable transportation methods.
Additionally, RTA engaged with Mirdif and Al Warqa’a residents in an interactive meeting in October, to update them on the Dubai Metro Blue Line initiative and forthcoming traffic changes during construction. This effort underscores RTA’s commitment to community involvement, transparency, and working public feedback into actionable plans.
