Russia Strikes Kyiv as Drones Wound Dozens Across Ukraine

Post by : Shweta

Russia Launches Fresh Drone Assault on Kyiv

Russia launched a new wave of drone attacks against Kyiv on Thursday, August 27, as Ukrainian authorities reported casualties and damage across several regions. The latest assault is part of an increasingly frequent pattern of Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital, including strikes carried out during daylight hours.

Residents in Kyiv heard several explosions as air raid warnings sounded repeatedly during the morning. Authorities said one man was wounded in the capital’s Golosiivsky district. Images from the Kyiv region showed large clouds of smoke rising from a location hit during the attack.

Kyiv Region Targeted Overnight

Ukrainian officials said Russian forces had also attacked the wider Kyiv region throughout the night using strike drones and ballistic missiles. According to regional authorities, warehouses were among the locations targeted during the overnight assault.

The attacks were not limited to Kyiv. Ukrainian officials reported casualties in multiple parts of the country, showing that Russia continued its regular overnight strikes alongside the newer daytime attacks on the capital.

Casualties Reported Across Ukraine

In northeastern Sumy region, one person was killed and four others were wounded in Russian attacks, according to local authorities. Odesa also reported three wounded people following strikes, while three people were wounded in each of the southern regions of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.

Kherson city officials said Russian forces attacked civilian transportation during the day while people were carrying out their normal activities. The attacks have increased concerns about the safety of civilians as strikes continue across Ukraine.

Ukraine Calls for Stronger Air Defence

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky renewed his appeal to international allies for additional ballistic missile defence systems. Kyiv has repeatedly said stronger air defence is essential to protect cities, critical infrastructure and civilians from Russian drones and missiles.

The latest attacks come more than four years after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The continued strikes demonstrate the ongoing intensity of the conflict despite repeated diplomatic efforts aimed at finding a path toward peace.

Impact on Civilians and Infrastructure

The latest attacks have caused fresh disruption for communities across Ukraine, with warehouses and civilian transportation among the reported targets. Smoke was seen rising over parts of the Kyiv region after the strikes, while emergency authorities worked to respond to the damage and casualties.

Ukrainian authorities continue to urge residents to follow air raid warnings and seek shelter during attacks. The repeated use of drones and missiles has made air defence one of Kyiv’s most urgent military and civilian priorities.
