Recently in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), an important and joyful event took place. The occasion was the National Day of Rwanda, a celebration that marks the country's independence and achievements over the years. This event brought together people from different countries, cultures, and communities, highlighting Rwanda’s deep connection with the UAE.

The event was hosted by John Mirenge, the Ambassador of Rwanda to the UAE, at the beautiful Grand Hyatt Hotel in Abu Dhabi. It was a grand evening where guests enjoyed the Rwandan spirit, culture, and hospitality.

One of the prominent guests at the event was Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, the UAE Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development Affairs and International Organizations. His presence showed how important the relationship between the UAE and Rwanda has become.

In addition to Mr. Al Shamsi, there were many other important people who attended the event. These included ambassadors, diplomats, and representatives from Arab and foreign countries, along with members of the Rwandan community living in the UAE. Their presence made the event truly global and festive.

A Message from Rwanda to the UAE

During the celebration, Ambassador John Mirenge gave a speech. His words were filled with gratitude, hope, and a strong sense of friendship between the two nations. He spoke with pride about the good and growing relationship between Rwanda and the UAE.

He explained how the UAE has become a very important partner for Rwanda, especially in business. According to him, the UAE is now Rwanda’s biggest trading partner in the world. This means that Rwanda sells more goods to the UAE and buys more goods from the UAE than any other country.

Ambassador Mirenge also praised how both countries have worked together over the years to build a strong partnership. He said that their bond is not just about trade, but also about shared values, friendship, and mutual respect.

A Call for More Investments

One of the most important messages in the ambassador’s speech was a call to Emirati companies and investors. He encouraged them to look at the many opportunities that Rwanda offers. From business and agriculture to tourism and technology, Rwanda is open to new partnerships and investments.

He invited Emirati business leaders to visit Rwanda and explore how they can become part of its growth story. He said that Rwanda is a safe, stable, and growing country in Africa and that investors can benefit greatly from putting their money and ideas into the Rwandan economy.

By saying this, the ambassador showed that Rwanda is not only looking for friendship with the UAE but also wants to build a strong economic bridge between the two countries.

Why This Celebration Matters

This kind of event is more than just a national celebration. It is also a symbol of diplomatic relations, where countries get to know each other better and look for ways to work together.

For example:

  • It helps build stronger political ties between Rwanda and the UAE.

  • It shows respect for the cultures and traditions of each other.

  • It creates a platform to talk about trade, education, tourism, and more.

  • It allows members of the Rwandan community in the UAE to feel proud and connected to their home country.

When countries celebrate each other’s national days, it often leads to better cooperation in many areas, such as business, education, the environment, healthcare, and international development.

Rwanda and UAE: A Growing Relationship

Over the years, Rwanda and the UAE have become close partners in many fields. Both countries share a vision of development, sustainability, and innovation. The UAE has supported Rwanda in several projects, and Rwanda has opened its doors to UAE investors and companies.

Their partnership is also important because it shows how Africa and the Middle East can work together in new ways. Instead of only depending on old partnerships with Western countries, Rwanda is now building stronger ties with countries like the UAE that are growing fast and want to invest globally.

This also shows that Rwanda is ready to play a bigger role on the international stage and wants to become a key player in global trade and diplomacy.

What’s Next?

As both Rwanda and the UAE continue to grow, their partnership is expected to become even stronger. Events like the National Day reception help keep this relationship alive and vibrant.

For the future, we can expect

  • More Rwandan products to be sold in the UAE.

  • More UAE businesses opening offices or factories in Rwanda.

  • Cultural exchanges between the people of both countries.

  • Joint projects in education, health, energy, and tourism.

If Emirati investors respond positively to the ambassador’s invitation, Rwanda could see a big increase in foreign investments, which would boost its economy and create more jobs for its people.

This celebration was not just about Rwanda's independence—it was also about the power of international friendship and cooperation. The presence of high-level UAE officials, diplomats, and business leaders shows that Rwanda matters to the UAE, and the UAE matters to Rwanda.

As the world becomes more connected, relationships like this one help build a peaceful and prosperous global community. By working together, sharing resources, and respecting each other’s cultures, countries like Rwanda and the UAE can create a better future for their people.
