Saudi Arabia Warns of Heavy Rain and Flash Floods

Post by : Shweta

Saudi Arabia Issues Heavy Rain Warning

Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology has warned of moderate to heavy rainfall across parts of the Kingdom’s western and southwestern regions. The weather system could bring flash floods, hail and strong winds to several areas, prompting authorities to urge residents to take precautions and closely monitor official weather alerts.

Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha and Makkah at Risk

The latest forecast covers parts of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha and Makkah. Moderate to heavy rain capable of triggering flooding and hail is expected in several locations. Light to moderate rainfall is also forecast for parts of Najran and Madinah, while dust-raising winds could affect those areas and parts of Riyadh region.

Civil Defense Urges People to Stay Away From Floodwater

The General Directorate of Civil Defense has urged residents to remain in safe places and avoid valleys and areas where floodwater can accumulate. Authorities have also warned people not to swim in flooded areas and called on the public to follow official instructions and weather alerts distributed through media and social media platforms.

Makkah Region Could See Heavy Rain and Hail

In the Makkah region, Taif, Maysan, Adham and Al-Ardiyat are forecast to receive moderate to heavy rainfall that could lead to flooding and hail. Downdrafts accompanying thunderstorms may also raise dust and sand. Lighter rainfall is expected in Makkah, Al-Kamil, Al-Jumum, Bahrah, Al-Lith and Al-Qunfudhah.

Western Regions Face Thunderstorms

Jazan, Asir and Al-Baha are also expected to experience moderate to heavy rain, with possible flooding and hail. Strong downdrafts could raise dust and sand in affected areas. The latest Civil Defense advisory warns that thunderstorms may continue across parts of Saudi Arabia through Monday.

Sea Conditions and Strong Winds

The National Center for Meteorology also forecast northwesterly to westerly winds of 10 to 30 kph over the Red Sea, with waves between 0.5 and 1.5 meters. In the Arabian Gulf, winds are expected to range from 10 to 26 kph, with waves between 0.5 and 1 meter. Sea conditions are expected to remain relatively calm.

Wetter Autumn Expected Across Saudi Arabia

The latest warnings come as Saudi Arabia prepares for a wetter-than-average autumn. The NCM’s September-November climate outlook projects above-average rainfall across large parts of the Kingdom, with October expected to be the peak of the rainy season. Rainfall could reach heavy to very heavy levels and potentially become torrential in some areas.

November Rainfall Could Remain Above Average

The wetter pattern is expected to continue into November across several regions, including Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Makkah, Al-Jouf, Hail, Qassim, Riyadh and the Eastern Province. The NCM estimates a 40 to 70 percent probability of above-average rainfall in the highlighted areas. Officials have stressed that long-range forecasts cannot capture every localized or unusual rainfall event, making short-term weather alerts important for public safety and early preparedness.
