Australia paceman Scott Boland says he has nothing to prove as he prepares for the upcoming Ashes series against England. Two years ago, he struggled in the 2023 series in England, taking just two wickets while conceding 231 runs in two tests. Despite that tough experience, Boland is confident and focused on performing well in the 2025 Ashes, which begins in Perth on November 21.
Boland’s last Ashes series was difficult compared to his earlier successes. In the 2021/22 home Ashes, he took 18 wickets, including seven in his debut test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Former England captain Michael Atherton said England’s batters were not afraid of Boland in 2023 despite his strong career record. Boland, however, emphasizes that he is concentrating on improving and staying confident.
Boland told reporters that he is focused on his own game rather than proving anything to others. “I believe in my own skills. I am a proud cricketer, and every time I play, I want to put out my best performance,” he said. He explained that setbacks are opportunities to learn and grow, and he is ready to handle challenges on the field.
The 36-year-old has waited for opportunities in Australia’s strong bowling lineup, which includes Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood. Due to a back injury to Cummins, Boland may play from day one. He is in good form, taking eight wickets in Victoria’s recent Sheffield Shield win over New South Wales. After a period of gym work and rehabilitation, he feels ready to play all five tests if needed.
Boland said he is excited for the summer and wants to contribute to the team, whether he is playing or serving as the 12th man. “Even if I am the 12th man, I still want to be involved,” he said. His focus is on teamwork, preparation, and giving his best performance in every match.
Off the field, Boland is active in promoting indigenous cricket. He is Australia’s second Indigenous test player and recently helped launch the National Indigenous Cricket Championships with the Melbourne Cricket Club. He also supported a training camp for indigenous talent at the MCG. Boland praised young fast bowler Brendan Doggett, who could become Australia’s third Indigenous test player, saying Doggett has “progressed really well” over the years.
