Selangor ends hardcore poverty, says Anwar

Post by : Shakul

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced that hardcore poverty in Selangor has been successfully eliminated following the implementation of targeted and consistent assistance programmes. This major development was shared after a district-level meeting focused on development and welfare in the state.

According to the prime minister, the achievement was presented during a Petaling District Development Meeting held in Shah Alam. The meeting reviewed the progress of various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of people, especially those from low-income backgrounds.

Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that while the milestone is significant, continuous monitoring remains essential. He stated that the government must ensure that no family is left behind and that all eligible individuals continue to receive the support they need to improve their living conditions.

He further explained that beyond financial aid, the focus is also on empowering people through skills and training. By providing opportunities for education and income generation, families can become self-reliant and improve their long-term economic stability.

The prime minister highlighted that Selangor’s strong economy plays a key role in supporting these initiatives. He stressed that the state’s economic strength must be used effectively to raise the standard of living for all citizens, particularly those in urban areas facing financial challenges.

He also called for the expansion of the SejaTi Madani programme, especially in the Petaling district. This programme aims to support community-based projects that help people generate income and build sustainable livelihoods.

Several successful initiatives were mentioned during the discussion. These include tailoring projects in Kampung Melayu Subang, stingless bee farming in Bayu Damansara, and furniture-making activities in Bukit Lanchong. These projects have helped communities earn incomes ranging from RM24,000 to RM100,000, showing the positive impact of targeted support.

The meeting also addressed other important issues affecting the public. These included road maintenance, flood mitigation, waste management, and the management of places of worship. The government is working on both short-term solutions and long-term plans to improve these areas.

Anwar Ibrahim concluded by expressing confidence that with continued cooperation and commitment from all parties, the government will be able to solve remaining challenges and ensure that the benefits of development reach every section of society.
