H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, officially inaugurated the 12th Sharjah International Film Festival on Sunday evening. The grand opening took place at the Al Qasimia University Theater, attracting filmmakers, artists, and cinema enthusiasts from across the globe.
Festival as a Creative Platform
Organized by the FANN Media Discovery Platform, the festival provides a creative space for filmmakers and artists to collaborate and showcase their work. It aims to promote cultural exchange, support emerging talents, and highlight the diversity of cinematic and artistic expression in the region and internationally.
Lifetime Achievement Awards
During the ceremony, H.H. Sheikh Sultan honored several artists with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Emirati actor Abdullah Saleh and Saudi actor Abdul Mohsen Al Nemer were recognized at the UAE and Gulf level for their contributions to drama, theater, and cinema. Middle Eastern actor Abed Fahd also received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his distinguished career and impact on regional arts.
Recognizing Young Talent
The festival also celebrated emerging talent in the youth category. H.H. Sheikh Sultan presented the UAE Youth Award to Emirati actor Marwan Abdullah Saleh, recognizing his promising contributions to the arts. The Gulf-level Youth Award was given to actor Hala Al Turk for her exceptional performances and dedication to cultural enrichment.
Special Recognition Awards
In addition to lifetime and youth awards, Basil Khayat received a special award in recognition of his efforts to enrich the Arab art scene with distinguished works. These awards highlight the festival’s commitment to honoring artistic achievements and fostering creativity in the region.
