Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, convened with Khaled El Enany, the Director General of UNESCO, during the 56th Annual World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, from January 19 to 23.
The meeting was part of a larger delegation which included His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Board of Trustees member of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, and His Excellency Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, the UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs, along with various senior officials.
This discussion was a key element of the UAE’s involvement in the World Economic Forum, a significant global forum uniting leaders, policymakers, international organizations, and experts to tackle economic and developmental challenges while fostering global cooperation.
During the dialogue, Her Highness articulated the UAE’s educational and cultural objectives, emphasizing their synergy with UNESCO’s goals. She pointed out the vital roles of culture, education, and science as cornerstones of sustainable development, significantly contributing to national identity and social cohesion.
The conversations also revolved around UNESCO’s efforts in safeguarding global heritage, nurturing cultural sectors, and fostering advancements in education and research. Her Highness reiterated the commitment of the UAE to enhance cooperation with UNESCO through expertise sharing, modern cultural strategies, and support for knowledge-driven initiatives both regionally and globally.
Discussion points included key priorities like preserving cultural heritage, bolstering the creative economy, empowering communities through education, and augmenting the role of culture in broad development initiatives.
The meeting underscored the necessity for stronger coordination both regionally and internationally amid evolving global challenges. Both parties concurred on the crucial impact of culture and education in promoting understanding, encouraging dialogue among nations, and facilitating sustainable development worldwide.
