Dubai's Active Summer 2026 Kicks Off with Citywide Sports Events

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) has launched the "Active Summer" initiative, an extensive sports program set to run until August 31, 2026. This initiative aims to bolster Dubai's reputation as a premier year-round sports hub by providing a multitude of sporting activities and events designed for residents and visitors of all ages.

In collaboration with national institutions and event organizers, the initiative features both indoor and outdoor competitions, water sports, marine activities, snow sports, mountain adventures, shopping mall races, and special programs tailored for People of Determination across Dubai.

Essa Sharif, the Director of the Sports Events Department at Dubai Sports Council, emphasized that the initiative seeks to foster a culture of sports and physical activity for everyone, irrespective of age or nationality. He noted the council's commitment to enhancing public engagement in summer sports, promoting quality of life, and further establishing Dubai as one of the world’s most vibrant cities for activity.

A significant highlight will be the Dubai Mallathon, scheduled from June 15 to September 15, offering both amateur and professional runners the chance to compete in air-conditioned shopping malls. Launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, this initiative has already drawn over 40,000 participants and secured a Guinness World Record for the largest indoor mall race.

Moreover, Dubai Sports World will occur from June 27 to August 25, showcasing a range of indoor sports, tournaments, and family-friendly fun. This year's edition introduces Dubai Kids World and special events for seniors in partnership with the Thukher Club, aiming to promote healthy and active living.

Emphasizing inclusiveness, the Summer Activity for People of Determination is planned from June 22 to July 30, themed "Our Summer is Beautiful." This program will consist of specialized sports and recreational activities to enhance participation and athletic skill development.

The summer sports calendar includes the third edition of the One Body community sports initiative, spearheaded by former England football star Rio Ferdinand and his wife Kate, featuring several international athletes.

Several competitive tournaments are also on the docket, such as the Dubai Schools Games basketball tournament, Expo 2026 Games, Apex Fitness Games, Dubai Open Football Academies Championship, UAE Expat Basketball Championship, and the Ibn Battuta Run.

Additional competitions will feature disciplines like boxing, bodybuilding, gymnastics, swimming, badminton, sailing, football, and futsal.

For those keen on winter sports, Ski Dubai has unveiled an exciting schedule including the Freestyle Skiing Grand Prix, training camps in alpine skiing and snowboarding, alongside international programs. The venue is set to host local and international teams, including the British UNIQ snow camp, Saudi and Paralympic teams, and the Uzbekistan National Paralympic Alpine Skiing Team.

Ski Dubai will also continue its weekly Freestyle Ski Night and host the renowned Hyrox indoor ice fitness challenge, anticipated to attract significant participation over the summer.

Through the Active Summer 2026 initiative, Dubai aims to motivate year-round sports participation, promote healthier living, and create ample sporting opportunities across all societal sectors.
