A powerful storm called Tropical Storm Wipha recently hit the central part of Vietnam, especially the province of Nghe An. The storm brought very heavy rains and strong winds that lasted for hours. These harsh weather conditions caused serious flooding in many areas. Sadly, three people lost their lives, and one more person is still missing. Thousands of people are now struggling to deal with the destruction caused by the storm.

Why Vietnam Is at Risk for Storms

Vietnam is located near the South China Sea, which is a place where many tropical storms and typhoons form. These storms bring strong winds and a lot of rain. Since Vietnam has a long coastline, it often gets hit by these storms. Every year, several storms cause floods, landslides, and damage to homes and farms. This storm, named Wipha, is just one of the many dangerous storms that Vietnam faces each year.

Flooding Affects Thousands of Homes

When the storm arrived in Nghe An, it caused floodwaters to rise quickly. Rivers and streams overflowed, and water entered many houses. According to local authorities, more than 3,700 houses were completely flooded. People had to move to safer areas or stay on the rooftops until help arrived. On top of that, 459 houses were damaged by the strong winds. Some roofs flew off, walls broke, and windows shattered. In total, more than 4,100 houses were affected.

People Are Still Missing

Officials reported that three people have died in the floods. One person died while trying to cross a flooded area. Another drowned in their home. The third victim was swept away while trying to help others. There is one more person still missing, and rescue teams are working hard to find them. These teams are using boats and other tools to search flooded areas and check if anyone else is trapped or needs help.

Transport and Roads Are Blocked

The flood not only damaged homes but also destroyed roads and bridges. Many streets were filled with deep water. Some roads were completely cut off, making it impossible for cars or ambulances to pass. This made it harder for rescue workers to reach certain villages. People in remote areas were trapped for hours or even days before help arrived. Boats and helicopters had to be used in some places to carry food, water, and medicine.

Emergency Teams Help Victims

The local government and disaster relief teams quickly began rescue operations. Soldiers, police, doctors, and volunteers worked together to help the affected people. They built temporary shelters for those who lost their homes. These shelters gave people a dry place to sleep, warm clothes, clean water, and meals. The teams also helped move the sick, the elderly, and children to safe places.

Farms and Fields Were Destroyed

Nghe An is a farming province. Many people grow rice, vegetables, and fruits, or raise chickens and cows. The storm destroyed many farms. Water covered the fields, washed away crops, and drowned animals. Farmers are very worried because their livelihood is now at risk. They don’t know how long it will take to recover. Some families may lose their income for the rest of the year due to the loss of crops and animals.

Communities Work Together

Even though the storm caused much pain and damage, the local people are showing strong unity. Neighbors are helping one another by sharing food, giving dry clothes, and helping to clean flooded homes. Some community centers and schools have opened their doors as shelters. Young volunteers are helping with cleaning and delivering food to those in need. Many local organizations and charities have also joined hands to provide support.

More Rain Expected in Coming Days

Weather experts say that more rain is expected in the next few days. Even though Tropical Storm Wipha has weakened, the remaining clouds can still cause light to moderate rainfall in some areas. Officials are asking people to stay alert and not return to dangerous areas too soon. Families living near rivers or hills are being advised to stay in shelters for a few more days.

Government Plans to Rebuild

The government has already started planning how to help people rebuild their homes and lives. Teams are checking damaged houses to see which ones can be repaired. Others will have to be rebuilt completely. Farmers may receive support such as seeds, tools, and money to restart their farms. The government also plans to repair broken roads, electricity lines, and water supply systems as quickly as possible.

Lessons for the Future

This storm reminds everyone how important it is to be prepared for natural disasters. In the future, Vietnam plans to build stronger houses, better drainage systems, and create early warning systems that can alert people faster. Schools and communities will be trained to know what to do when a storm is coming. Simple steps like moving to higher ground and packing emergency kits can save many lives.

People Stay Hopeful

Even though this storm caused pain and sadness, many people are staying hopeful. They know it will take time to rebuild, but they believe that with help from each other, from the government, and from charities, things will get better. The people of Nghe An are strong and are doing their best to clean up, start again, and protect their families.
