In November, the demand for foreign-made smartphones in China witnessed a remarkable increase, signaling revived interest in international brands following a phase of stagnant growth.
Data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) indicates that shipments for foreign-branded phones saw a remarkable 128.4% rise from the same month last year. This surge is notable as the overall smartphone market in China reflected only minimal gains.
During the month, total mobile phone shipments hit 30.16 million units, recording a modest rise of 1.9% year-on-year. Out of these, foreign brands accounted for 6.93 million units, marking an expanding presence in the market.
Apple’s iPhone significantly contributed to this rebound, with the introduction of the new iPhone 17 series capturing consumer interest, especially in major urban centers like Beijing, where Apple stores reported high customer traffic during the promotional period.
Despite facing challenges over the past year, including reduced consumer spending and strong competition from domestic brands with appealing offers, the latest figures suggest a gradual resurgence of consumer confidence, particularly towards premium devices.
According to analysts, seasonal buying patterns, new product rollouts, and end-of-year sales promotions likely bolstered these numbers. However, the significant upturn indicates a lasting appeal for international brands beyond just a temporary spike.
The sales data from November represents a hopeful outlook for global tech firms in China. Although the landscape remains competitive, there seems to be a reassuring trend in the demand for foreign smartphones, which appears to be stabilizing after a challenging timeframe.
