Times Square Shooting Panic: Teen Held After Gunfire and Stabbing

Post by : Bianca Haleem

A teenager has been taken into custody after a violent incident in New York City's Times Square on Thursday afternoon that included a stabbing and multiple gunshots, causing panic among tourists and local residents.

According to police, the incident began around 3:40 p.m. near the intersection of 44th Street and Broadway in Times Square, New York City. Authorities believe a large fight broke out before the situation escalated. During the chaos, a young man or teenager was seen firing a gun in the crowded tourist area

Although no one was struck by the gunfire, the sound of multiple shots sent people running for safety. Witnesses reported seeing crowds rush into nearby stores and businesses as fear spread through the busy tourist district.

The suspected gunman was seen running south before colliding with a police officer. He then continued east along 42nd Street while officers pursued him. Police later detained a teenager, but it has not yet been confirmed whether the person in custody is the individual seen firing the weapon.

Shortly after the arrest, a second shooting incident was reported near 45th Street and Eighth Avenue. Investigators are working to determine whether the two incidents are connected.

During the investigation, officers also discovered a 26-year-old man suffering from a stab wound to the neck. He was transported to Morningside Hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

Witnesses described scenes of confusion and fear as people rushed to escape the area. Employees at a nearby souvenir shop said they helped several individuals who fell while trying to flee.

Police secured the scene, collected evidence, and examined the locations where bullets may have landed. Authorities are continuing to investigate the events that led to the violence.

Officials have confirmed that one teenager is currently in custody. However, detectives are still searching for additional suspects and have not yet determined what triggered the fight and subsequent gunfire.
