Trump Submits New Nominations and Withdraws Ambassador Pick

Post by : Shweta

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has forwarded a fresh list of nominations to the Senate, detailing various appointments for crucial government posts while also retracting one ambassadorial nomination. This update was shared by the White House on April 13, 2026.

Notable among the nominations is Erin Browne from New York, who is set to take on the role of Under Secretary of the Treasury, succeeding Jay Curtis Shambaugh, who has stepped down. Additionally, Brian Cavanaugh of Maryland has been proposed as Under Secretary for Management at the Department of Homeland Security, replacing Claire M. Grady.

The administration has also suggested the reappointment of Thomas B. Chapman to the National Transportation Safety Board, extending his service until 2028. Furthermore, David M. Prouty has been nominated for reappointment to the National Labor Relations Board, and James Macy from Wisconsin has been nominated for a fresh term on the same board extending to 2030.

On the diplomatic front, Michelle Steel of California has been put forth as the U.S. Ambassador to South Korea, alongside Eric Wendt as Ambassador to Albania. These appointments are pivotal for enhancing U.S. relationships with significant global partners.

Other nominations include Brock Dahl as Legal Adviser at the Department of State, Jason Holt as U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Oklahoma, and Timothy VerHey as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan. Additionally, Michael Tierney has been nominated as Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs, emphasizing accountability and whistleblower protections.

James Woodruff has also been put forth as Chairman of the Merit Systems Protection Board, an entity devoted to overseeing federal employment practices and safeguarding employee rights.

Simultaneously, the nomination of Troy Edgar as U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador has been withdrawn without specified reasons; this nomination was originally submitted earlier this year.

Each nomination will now undergo the Senate confirmation process, allowing lawmakers to meticulously assess the candidates’ qualifications before granting final approval. These actions signify ongoing efforts by the administration to appoint leaders across various governmental offices and diplomatic roles.
