Trump Warns Iran of Strong Response After Jordan Base Attack

Post by : Bianca Haleem

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned Iran that the United States would respond with force after American military bases in Jordan came under a missile attack. The warning came after the US military said it had stopped what it described as an attempted surprise strike.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said the incoming missiles were intercepted before they could reach their intended targets.

"We are going to beat the effing S out of them," Trump said.

"We'll be hitting them hard. They're going to get a beating," he added.

CENTCOM Says All Missiles Were Intercepted

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched multiple ballistic missiles targeting American forces in the Middle East.

CENTCOM said the attack was an "attempted surprise attack" and confirmed that every missile was successfully intercepted before causing any damage.

Trump said US forces had only a few minutes to react but managed to stop the missiles before impact. He also said he had watched video footage showing American military personnel calling out missile coordinates in real time during the interception process.

Jordan Intercepts Missiles Fired Toward Its Territory

The latest escalation followed fresh missile launches by Iran on Wednesday.

Jordan's military said it intercepted five missiles that were fired toward the country.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the missiles were aimed at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base and the headquarters of US Central Command in Jordan.

US and Saudi Forces Conduct Overnight Strikes

Earlier, CENTCOM confirmed that US and Saudi forces carried out overnight strikes against Iran-backed militias in Iraq.

Trump said the operation was conducted in coordination with the Iraqi government.

He described the Iran-backed militias as a "cancer on the world" and said his administration was considering issuing additional warnings to Iranian proxy groups.

Oil Prices Rise After Fresh Middle East Escalation

The renewed tensions in the Middle East also affected global financial markets.

Oil prices moved higher as investors reacted to the latest escalation involving Iran, the United States, and regional military operations.
