Final Touches on Taman Persekutuan Lembah Kiara: June Reopening Anticipated

Post by : Shakul

The enhancement of Taman Persekutuan Lembah Kiara in Taman Tun Dr Ismail is approaching completion, with officials announcing a projected reopening by June. The project stands at about 98 percent completion, pending the final handover from the contractor.

Officials assured the public that a recent collapse of a retaining wall and subsequent mudflow at Jalan Abang Haji Openg will not interfere with the upgrade schedule. This incident is associated with a different development project within the Bukit Kiara Federal Park area.

The National Landscape Department reported that the remaining tasks mainly involve minor finishing touches and the finalization of designated features before the official site handover. Following this, a one-month observation phase will take place before the park's public reopening.

Earlier in the project timeline, delays occurred due to the contractor's struggles with meeting revised deadlines. Key unfinished tasks included pond desilting and associated improvements, which fell behind schedule despite several extensions granted.

Consequently, the authorities have applied liquidated damages to the contractor, charging approximately RM1,200 per day, with total penalties now around RM76,000, illustrating the importance of timely project completion.

The Drainage and Irrigation Department has mandated the contractor to finalize all outstanding work by the end of April. Following these completions, safety and quality assessments will occur during the observation phase.

This RM6 million upgrade project, initiated in July 2024, encompasses significant enhancements such as stream restoration, pond restoration, sediment basin upgrades, and improvements to railings and lighting systems. These upgrades aim to boost the park's environmental sustainability and enhance visitor experiences.

Currently, only unaffected sections of the park remain accessible to the public, with assurances that the complete reopening will bring improved amenities and a safer environment for all visitors.
