Dubai, UAE – Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, set out the country’s clean-energy priorities during the Singapore-IRENA High-Level Forum at the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2025.
The forum, organised under the theme "Envisioning Energy Tomorrow, Building Systems Today," gathered government officials, energy sector executives and technical specialists to examine regional integration while respecting national energy plans.
Al Olama said the UAE’s approach rests on predictable long-term policies, competitive market frameworks and strong international linkages. Over the last decade, these elements have drawn sizable foreign capital, produced some of the lowest clean-energy tariffs globally and proven the value of open tenders and dependable power-purchase agreements.
Via Masdar, the UAE has extended its clean-energy operations to more than 40 countries, delivering upwards of 50 GW of installed capacity to date. The country is aiming for 100 GW of clean power by 2030 and plans to produce one million tonnes of green hydrogen each year.
Speakers at the forum stressed the need to scale cross-border investment to meet rising demand in regions such as Southeast Asia, where electricity consumption could grow by about 60% by 2040. Essential measures include clear long-term market signals, harmonised regulation and grids, and finance mechanisms that lower project risk.
Al Olama pointed to the GCC Power Grid as an effective example, noting it has cut generation costs by more than $3 billion while improving reliability and reducing emissions. He proposed developing similar green power corridors to link the Middle East with Southeast Asia and support international energy trade.
The UAE’s participation at SIEW 2025 reaffirmed its focus on clean-energy investment, regional cooperation and global partnerships to strengthen sustainable growth and energy security.
