High-ranking representatives from the United Arab Emirates met with their United Nations counterparts to explore avenues for strengthening collaboration in energy, sustainability, and water resource management.

The discussion involved His Excellency Abdulla Balalaa and Her Excellency Amina J. Mohammed, focusing on fostering international cooperation to achieve sustainable development goals, particularly through innovative partnerships and actionable frameworks.

A significant portion of the dialogue centered on the upcoming United Nations Water Conference 2026, slated to be co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal in Abu Dhabi from December 8 to 10, 2026.

This conference is poised to serve as a vital international forum aimed at accelerating solutions to water-related issues. It will focus on attracting partnerships, securing funding, and reinforcing global dedication to water security and sustainable practices.

H.E. Abdulla Balalaa reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to collaborating closely with the UN and global partners to ensure the success of this significant conference. He pointed out that the UAE welcomes international investments and collaboration in areas including water resilience, innovation, and sustainable management practices.

Both parties reiterated the crucial role of water in achieving sustainable development, ensuring climate resilience, bolstering food security, and driving economic growth. They highlighted the necessity for enhanced multilateral efforts to effectively tackle global water issues.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to adopt an action-oriented strategy that unites governments, international bodies, financial institutions, the private sector, and additional stakeholders. The aim is to devise practical solutions that facilitate progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 6, which focuses on accessible water and sanitation for all.

In essence, this discussion underscored the robust partnership between the UAE and the UN, laying out a shared vision for impactful, inclusive, and results-oriented cooperation in global sustainability efforts.
