Post by : Shakul

The 2026 American Music Awards commenced with a dazzling showcase in Las Vegas, where indie sensation Sombr and the infectious hit “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters earned prestigious awards early in the night. This annual event, influenced by voter participation, celebrated emerging talents and the global music scene across diverse genres.

At just 20 years old, Sombr garnered significant attention after taking home the award for Best Rock/Alternative Song with his poignant piece “Back to Friends.” During an emotional acceptance speech, he shared his experience of writing the song in solitude while grappling with teenage challenges. His candid remarks were met with enthusiastic applause from the audience at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Another highlight was the recognition of “Golden” as Song of the Year, a surprise victory for the virtual music collective HUNTR/X, featured in the animated series. Singer EJAE, visibly moved, expressed gratitude on stage to the fans whose support led to the significant accolade.

Opening the event, global K-pop phenomenon BTS performed energetically in synchronized black outfits during their Arirang Tour stop in Las Vegas, igniting excitement among attendees and viewers alike.

Host Queen Latifah energized the crowd by welcoming troupes of fans to the vibrant ceremony, commending the dynamic atmosphere within the arena. This edition of the AMAs showcased stellar performances, star-studded appearances, and fiercely contested awards among some of the leading names in the international entertainment sphere.

Pop icon Taylor Swift arrived with the most nominations, boasting eight nods. As the most decorated artist in AMA history, she contended for the coveted Artist of the Year title against other global stars like Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, Harry Styles, and Lady Gaga.

Experts deemed this year’s ceremony indicative of the expanding impact of streaming culture, fan-driven awards, and the global rise of K-pop and indie artists. The achievements of KPop Demon Hunters exemplified the increasing intersection of animation, streaming platforms, and contemporary music culture.

Fans worldwide avidly tuned into the live broadcast on CBS and Paramount+, with social media rapidly filling with highlights of performances, celebrity reactions, and acceptance speeches. The American Music Awards maintain their status as one of the largest fan-oriented global events in the entertainment industry.
