UAE Athletic Squad Achieves Fourth Place at Asian U20 Championship

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The UAE athletic squad wrapped up a commendable performance at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships held in Hong Kong, securing an impressive fourth position out of 30 competing nations.

Taking place from May 28 to May 31, the championship showcased some of Asia's top young talents. The UAE team excelled, amassing a total of six medals—five gold and one bronze.

China dominated the medal tally with 25 medals, comprising 14 gold, 9 silver, and 2 bronze. India followed in second with 18 medals, which included 9 golds, and Japan rounded out the top three with 17 medals, including 5 golds.

Major General Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Mur, President of the UAE Athletics Federation, lauded the team’s achievements and praised the fourth-place finish as a remarkable feat, especially given the robust competition faced.

Dr. Al Mur noted that the UAE sent only 10 athletes to compete, unlike other nations that brought larger squads of over 50. He emphasized that this success is a testament to the effectiveness of the federation's training and development efforts to identify and cultivate skilled athletes.

He also remarked on the long-term goals of the federation to enhance athlete development through progressive training paths, starting from regional competitions to continental events, aiming for international success.

The president concluded by congratulating all the medalists for their hard work and commitment, stating that their performances reflect the UAE's growing prominence in athletics and the bright future of its young competitors.
