The UAE is swiftly establishing itself as a frontrunner in food security, integrating innovation, investment, and infrastructure to build a robust and self-sufficient food ecosystem. Key projects nationwide are revolutionizing agriculture, manufacturing, and supply logistics, enabling the UAE to serve as a competitive center for both regional and global food trade.
In Abu Dhabi, the food and beverage industry is witnessing remarkable expansion. The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry reports that active sector memberships have risen to 24,594, with small and medium enterprises and start-ups contributing to a 42.2% increase in new memberships during the first half of 2025 compared to last year.
Meanwhile, Dubai is solidifying its position as a global center for food trade, leveraging its state-of-the-art infrastructure and strategic geographical location. The emirate's integrated logistics network increases supply chain efficiency, with Jebel Ali Port managing approximately 73% of the UAE’s food and beverage trade, facilitating connections with over 150 ports globally.
National banks are actively fueling this growth. The Emirates Development Bank initiated the UAE’s first AgriTech financing program in 2023, earmarking AED100 million for innovative food security projects. This initiative supports start-ups in developing advanced agricultural technologies and fortifies the nation’s self-sufficiency goals.
The UAE adopts a model that merges public-private cooperation with long-term vision. Initiatives like the Food Cluster Economy, introduced by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, create complete ecosystems that link farms, factories, supply chains, and retail, spurring innovation and efficiency while promoting investment and capacity enhancement.
Food Tech Valley in Dubai serves as another vital initiative, designed to create an integrated platform for agri-tech and food industries. This project connects local and international entities throughout the value chain, offering infrastructure, research capabilities, and strategic alliances to promote sustainable growth. In recent years, local products have gained a more significant footprint in UAE markets, reflecting the effectiveness of policies aimed at boosting domestic productivity and competitiveness.
These endeavours extend beyond mere economic objectives; they embody a national ambition for resilience, innovation, and leadership in the international food sector. By harmonizing technology, strategic investments, and collaborative initiatives, the UAE sets new standards for food security and sustainable development in the region.
