UAE Amplifies LNG Export Ambitions as Global Demand Soars

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The United Arab Emirates has announced a decisive move to enter the liquefied natural gas sector on a larger scale. Energy Minister Suhail al-Mazrouei emphasized the country's commitment to not only meet domestic gas requirements but also escalate LNG exports in the years ahead.

At the Abu Dhabi Financial Week, Mazrouei addressed the pressing issue of increasing global demand for natural gas, which is outstripping the rate of new investments and production. He indicated that the UAE is gearing up to boost its supply to align with both local demand and international export possibilities.

His statements echoed those made by Qatar's Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi, who underscored the uptick in global demand fueled partly by the expanding energy needs linked to artificial intelligence and digital infrastructures. Qatar anticipates that LNG demand will rise to 600–700 million tonnes yearly by 2035.

This push from the UAE is part of a wider strategy across the region. In June, ADNOC's investment arm, XRG, revealed plans for a gas and LNG portfolio targeting a capacity of 20–25 million tonnes annually by 2035, enhancing the UAE's stature as a critical global supplier.

With numerous projects in the pipeline and a growing long-term demand trajectory, the UAE is poised to play a vital role in the evolving global gas market.
