The United Arab Emirates Football Association (UAE FA) has taken strong action against two national team players for breaking rules during a training camp.
Khalid Al-Dhanhani, who plays for Sharjah, and Sultan Adel, who plays for Shabab Al-Ahli, have both been suspended for five domestic matches. Each player has also been fined 500,000 AED (around $136,132).
The incident happened during a training camp on June 7. As a result, both players have been removed from the national team and will not be traveling with the squad to Kyrgyzstan for their next World Cup qualifying match.
In a statement, the UAE FA said, “The disciplinary committee has decided to suspend both players and remove them from the senior national team after their misconduct during the camp.”
Even though the UAE cannot finish in the top two of Group A (with Iran and Uzbekistan already qualifying), they will continue in the World Cup journey by entering the fourth round of the Asian qualifiers. UAE and Qatar are set to finish in third or fourth place in the group.
In the next round, group winners will qualify directly for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Teams that finish second will move to the fifth round for another chance to qualify.
