In a significant development, the UAE National Guard has officially joined the International Association of Gendarmeries and Police Forces with Military Status, known as FIEP. This announcement was made during the summit held in Paris, France, from 20th to 23rd October 2025, which was hosted by the French Republic. Attended by French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez and delegates from 22 nations, the inclusion of the UAE National Guard signifies a pivotal step in the nation’s growing involvement in international security and collaboration.
The UAE delegation was headed by Major General Saleh Mohammed bin Megren Al Ameri, Commander of the National Guard, who participated in key discussions and emphasized the National Guard's crucial role within the UAE’s security framework. Major General Al Ameri articulated the National Guard's importance in the national security architecture, underscoring its collaborative efforts with various security agencies to safeguard the nation and its residents.
During his speech, Major General Al Ameri referred to the guiding vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, highlighting the leadership’s commitment to fostering international partnerships and bolstering cooperative efforts in both security and humanitarian domains. He pointed out that joining FIEP exemplifies the UAE’s ambition to share expertise, enhance joint operations, and build mutual understanding with countries that possess similar security frameworks.
Moreover, Major General Al Ameri accentuated the humanitarian aspects of the National Guard’s mission, asserting that their humanitarian initiatives are just as vital as their security duties. The National Guard has participated in numerous humanitarian efforts domestically and internationally. A notable instance is Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, a significant aid initiative aimed at assisting individuals in the Gaza Strip, where the UAE accounted for 45% of the overall international aid, reflecting a profound commitment to humanitarian efforts.
The UAE’s accession to FIEP was met with substantial enthusiasm among the member countries at the Paris summit, where representatives acknowledged the UAE’s proactive role in peacekeeping, disaster management, and security collaboration. The reputation of the UAE National Guard as a dependable and capable partner for addressing both regional and global challenges was recognized, and this membership underscores the UAE’s continuous endeavor to contribute positively to global peace and stability.
Participating in FIEP will enhance collaborative efforts against contemporary cross-border challenges such as terrorism, organized crime, human trafficking, and illegal immigration. Major General Al Ameri articulated that joining this international coalition will enable the UAE National Guard to collaborate more closely with other forces in intelligence sharing, improving training standards, and forming unified strategies to ensure peace and order across borders. He remarked that this collaboration will bolster regional security and foster global stability and trust among nations.
Membership in FIEP signifies the UAE’s steady progress towards establishing a prominent international presence in security and defense, while also reflecting the trust placed by other nations in the UAE’s professionalism, efficiency, and humanitarian principles. Over the years, the UAE has developed an integrated security strategy that merges military readiness with compassion and international cooperation. This new membership reaffirms the UAE’s role as a crucial bridge among nations striving for collective peace and safety.
The UAE National Guard’s entry into FIEP is a commendable milestone, symbolizing the country's global perspective. It embodies the UAE’s understanding that security cooperation and humanitarian actions are interlinked. Through this partnership, the National Guard seeks to engage more proactively in addressing shared global challenges and assisting communities in distress. As Major General Al Ameri concluded, the UAE remains committed to pursuing a safer and more peaceful world, guided by the leadership’s principles of unity, tolerance, and collaboration.
