UAE President, Iraq PM discuss tensions, consulate attack

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, received a phone call from Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, Prime Minister of the Iraq, to discuss recent developments in the region and their impact on security and stability.

During the call, both leaders reviewed the rising tensions in the region and the serious consequences these developments could have on regional peace. They also discussed the recent Iranian attacks targeting the UAE and several other countries in the region.

Prime Minister Al Sudani strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted the UAE Consulate General in the Kurdistan Region. The attack was the second incident within a week and was described as a dangerous violation of international laws and conventions that guarantee the protection of diplomatic missions.

The Iraqi Prime Minister reaffirmed Iraq’s clear rejection of any attacks against diplomatic and consular missions within its territory. He also stressed Iraq’s commitment to ensuring full protection for diplomatic facilities so they can continue their work and carry out their duties safely, in line with international obligations.

Both leaders emphasised the importance of reducing tensions in the region. They agreed that dialogue and diplomatic efforts are the best ways to address regional issues and maintain peace, stability, and security across the region.
