UAE Wins Top Honors in World Endurance Horse Championships

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The United Arab Emirates has strengthened its global reputation in endurance horse racing with another historic achievement. At the 2025 World Equestrian Championships, UAE riders won both the individual gold and silver medals, as well as the team title in the 120km World Championships for Young Horses aged eight. The event was held in France under the supervision of the International Federation and brought together some of the best riders from around the world. These victories reflect years of commitment, skill, and support from the UAE leadership and its equestrian institutions.

Continuing a Legacy of Excellence

This recent success in France continues the UAE’s remarkable record in endurance racing. Last year, UAE riders achieved a similar feat in Italy, winning both the team and individual gold medals. With the 2025 victories, the UAE now holds seven individual titles and two team titles in this prestigious global championship. These results highlight the country’s consistent performance and growing dominance in the sport, showing that UAE riders are among the most competitive and skilled in the world.

Role of UAE Leadership

The achievements of UAE riders have been strongly supported by the country’s leadership. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, achieved a historic milestone in 2012 by winning the World Endurance Championship at Aston Park, Britain. His participation in international championships has been distinguished since 1999, in countries such as Spain, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, France, and Britain. His Highness’s success has inspired generations of riders in the UAE to compete at the highest levels.

Contributions of the Crown Prince

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense, has also made his mark in endurance racing. In 2014, he won the World Endurance Championship held in Normandy, France. These achievements by UAE leaders emphasize the importance of the sport in the country and the encouragement provided to riders, helping them reach global competitiveness. Their successes have motivated Emirati riders to maintain high standards and achieve international recognition.

Strategic Role of the UAE in Endurance Racing

The UAE has become a key player in endurance racing globally by adopting innovative initiatives and providing an attractive environment for riders. The country invests in infrastructure, training programs, and international events that allow riders to compete at top levels. UAE’s focus on empowerment and support ensures that its riders remain competitive worldwide. By offering world-class facilities and promoting horse racing professionally, the UAE has positioned itself as a global leader in endurance equestrian sports.

Local Championships Promote Talent

Within the UAE, a series of diverse endurance championships are organized annually. These competitions include male and female riders from across the country and select international participants. The events are highly competitive and feature advanced racing techniques. World-class facilities such as the Emirates International Endurance Village in Al Wathba, Boudheib International Village in Al Khatim, and Dubai International Endurance City in Saih Al Salam host these championships. These venues provide riders and horses with top-level conditions to train and compete successfully.

Prestigious Championships in the UAE

The UAE hosts a number of prestigious endurance competitions, such as the President of the UAE Endurance Cup, the His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Endurance Cup, the Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Cup for women private stable owners, the Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Festival, and the Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Festival. Additional events include the Emirates Cup, Federation Cup, Arabian Horse Racing, Sheikh Mohammed bin Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Cup, Sheikha Fatima bint Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Cup, Sheikh Zayed bin Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Cup, and the Abu Dhabi Endurance Festival. These events attract top riders and contribute to the UAE’s strong reputation in endurance sports.

History of Endurance Racing in the UAE

Endurance racing in the UAE began in 1992 under the guidance of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation organized its first races in 1993, laying the foundation for the country’s global success in equestrian sports. Since then, the UAE has grown into a prominent force in endurance racing, producing champions and consistently performing well in international competitions. The early vision and support from the leadership created a strong framework for the development of riders and horses in the UAE.

Global Recognition and Achievements

His Excellency Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Chairman of the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, stated that the UAE has achieved global success in endurance racing thanks to its wise leadership. UAE riders have raised the country’s flag on international podiums, gaining recognition and respect worldwide. These achievements reflect the UAE’s pivotal role in promoting equestrian sports globally through innovative initiatives, world-class events, and strategic support for riders and horses.

Riders Highlight UAE’s Strength

Salem Hamad Malhouf, who won the World Championship in 2021, highlighted that UAE riders represent a formidable force in international endurance racing. Their success is supported by the leadership’s sponsorship, training programs, and encouragement. UAE riders’ journey over decades has led to achievements such as winning the 2025 World Championship for Young Horses in France, where the UAE secured both individual and team titles. This consistency underscores the country’s sustained investment in endurance sports and dedication to achieving global excellence.

Champion Riders Reflect on UAE’s Success

Champion Saif Ahmed Al Mazrouei, winner of the individual title at the 2025 World Young Horse Championship, emphasized that the UAE has gained global recognition in endurance racing. The leadership’s support, investment in infrastructure, and promotion of the sport allow riders to compete successfully at the highest levels.
