The UAE women’s team achieved a historic victory by winning the gold medal and World Cup title in Unified Volleyball at the Special Olympics held in Katowice, Poland. The team defeated Ukraine 2–0 in the final, showcasing exceptional teamwork, determination, and skill. This major victory has brought pride not only to the UAE but also to the entire Arab region, marking another milestone in the country’s growing record of international sporting achievements.

Tournament Overview in Poland

The championship took place from 5th to 8th October in Katowice, Poland, and featured 16 international teams. Each represented a Special Olympics programme from different parts of the world. Teams from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas participated in the tournament, making it one of the most competitive editions of the Unified Volleyball World Cup.

Strong Start for Team UAE

Placed in Group C, the UAE team competed alongside Italy, Namibia, and India. They began their campaign with great confidence, recording a straight-sets victory (2–0) over Italy in their opening match. Building on this strong start, they continued their winning form with another 2–0 triumph against Namibia. These early wins helped boost team morale and established the UAE as a top contender in the competition.

A Tough Challenge Against India

In their third group match, the UAE team faced India, a strong and experienced opponent. Despite putting up a spirited performance, the UAE narrowly lost the game 1–2. However, the team learned valuable lessons from that match and used the experience to strengthen their strategies for the knockout stage. The loss did not dampen their spirit; instead, it motivated them to push harder toward their ultimate goal.

Road to the Final

The UAE team advanced confidently into the next round, where they faced Kenya in the semifinals. Displaying excellent teamwork and communication, the Emirati players dominated the match, winning 2–0. Their victory over Kenya secured their place in the final and set up a thrilling clash against Ukraine for the championship title. The final match was played with intensity, but the UAE team maintained control throughout and secured the gold medal with a 2–0 victory.

Celebrating a Golden Moment

The final whistle in Katowice marked a historic moment for the UAE delegation. The players celebrated their victory with great emotion, waving the UAE flag proudly as the national anthem played. For the athletes, coaches, and support staff, it was a well-deserved reward for months of training, discipline, and teamwork. The win also highlighted the strength of the UAE’s Special Olympics programme, which continues to empower athletes of determination to reach new heights.

Recognition from Special Olympics UAE

Talal Al Hashemi, National Director of Special Olympics UAE, praised the team’s remarkable performance. He said the victory was the result of the country’s continuous investment in developing female athletes of determination. Al Hashemi also emphasised that the win reflects the UAE’s wider commitment to supporting women in sports, education, and humanitarian activities, aligning with the nation’s vision of inclusion and equality.
