UAE Women Shine With Three Medals At World Jiu-Jitsu

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team began their campaign at the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Bangkok with great success. The women athletes stood out on the first day, winning three medals and displaying top-level performance against some of the world’s best competitors. Their results showed the UAE’s rising dominance in global jiu-jitsu.

Asma Al Hosani captured gold in the -52kg division after a composed and confident performance. Her victory was not only a personal achievement but also a proud moment for the UAE. She dedicated her win to her country and its leadership, who have supported the growth of the sport. Al Hosani said her final match against the Ukrainian champion was her toughest, lasting into the golden point round. She credited her focus and determination for helping her secure the gold medal.

Aysha Al Shamsi claimed the silver medal in the -45kg category after several strong performances throughout the competition. She expressed happiness with her result and said that the experience gained would help her grow as an athlete. In the same weight category, Balqees Abdulkareem earned bronze, rounding off a strong start for the UAE women’s team. Balqees admitted she had aimed for gold but said she learned important lessons that will help her improve for future championships.

The event is being held at the Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok and features top competitors from around the world. It includes divisions for men and women, along with categories for Under-21, Under-18, Under-16, and Under-14 athletes. The UAE delegation, one of the largest, has 110 athletes competing in various divisions. The strong representation underlines the UAE’s growing reputation as a global hub for jiu-jitsu talent.

Senior officials from the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) were present at the event, including Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the Federation, and Mubarak Saleh Al Menhali, Technical Director. Al Dhaheri praised the team’s medal-winning start, saying it reflected the leadership’s vision and the athletes’ commitment. He added that the success was a result of continuous support from the UAE’s wise leadership and the encouragement of families and partners.

Technical Director Mubarak Saleh Al Menhali commended the athletes’ performances and acknowledged the high level of competition. He said a few more moments of focus could have led to even better results but expressed confidence that the coming days would bring more medals for the UAE. He added that the championship offers a valuable test of the team’s development in all categories.

Gold medallist Asma Al Hosani expressed pride in representing her nation and said her victory required deep focus and effort. Silver medallist Aysha Al Shamsi said the competition helped her gain valuable experience and motivated her to improve further. Bronze medallist Balqees Abdulkareem said that even though she had hoped for gold, she was proud of her achievement and would continue to work harder.

The UAE women’s team continues their campaign in the -63kg and -70kg divisions next, while the men’s competition begins in the -56kg category, featuring Emirati athlete Omar Al Suwaidi. Excitement is building among UAE fans as the team aims to add more medals to its tally in the coming days.

The UAE’s strong showing in Bangkok highlights the country’s continued investment in jiu-jitsu. Over the years, the sport has developed through clear planning, world-class facilities, and the nurturing of local talent. The leadership’s commitment to promoting jiu-jitsu as part of the nation’s identity has resulted in the UAE becoming one of the strongest nations in the sport. The three medals in Bangkok mark another proud moment in the UAE’s journey toward global excellence in martial arts.
