University of Sharjah Achieves 26th Spot in Global Times Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), commended the university for its outstanding success in the Times Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026. The University of Sharjah secured the 26th position globally, the 4th in the Arab world, and the top spot among UAE universities in this esteemed global assessment of multidisciplinary research.

This significant milestone marks the university's inaugural participation in the Times Interdisciplinary Science Rankings. It underscores the University of Sharjah's commitment to enhancing scientific inquiry across various fields and tackling critical global challenges, encompassing climate change, food security, digital transformation, and public health.

H.H. Sheikh Sultan extended his congratulations on this achievement, emphasizing that it mirrors the high standards of education and research within Sharjah and UAE at large. He highlighted that this recognition illustrates the university's persistent endeavors to furnish comprehensive resources, support progress, and uphold its prominent legacy in academia and scientific advancement.

This accomplishment marks a historic leap for the UAE's higher education landscape, as the University of Sharjah emerges as the first Emirati institution to attain such a notable ranking in a specialized global evaluation. It illustrates the university’s strong resolve to prioritize interdisciplinary research and establishes its aspiration to evolve into a premier global scientific center.

The university's achievement stems from a well-conceived academic and research framework. This initiative aims to elevate UoS into a hub for research excellence and innovation, both regionally and internationally. Over the years, substantial investments have been made to cultivate a cohesive research environment, attract leading scholars, and develop cutting-edge facilities.

The University of Sharjah now features three specialized research institutes with 86 research groups engaging in diverse scientific inquiries. These institutes foster interdisciplinary collaboration, contributing to the generation of impactful research that addresses tangible global issues. The state-of-the-art infrastructure and support mechanisms ensure that researchers have access to premier tools and resources for their endeavors.

The Times Interdisciplinary Science Rankings represent the first global framework assessing universities’ effectiveness in multidimensional research. The 2026 version included around 1,300 institutions globally, with 911 satisfying the ranking criteria. Evaluated through a matrix of three key components—research funding (inputs), research facilities (processes), and the quantity and quality of research publications and their international significance (outputs)—the ranking employs eleven indicators to gauge these dimensions collectively.

This ranking not only acknowledges the University of Sharjah's accomplishments but also reflects its enduring pledge to excellence in research and innovation. It highlights the institution’s increasing global footprint and asserts its leadership status in interdisciplinary scientific inquiry. The university’s continued triumph contributes significantly to enhancing the UAE's stature as a center for knowledge, inquiry, and higher education.

Through this success, the University of Sharjah sets a precedent for other educational entities within the region, bolstering its position as a leading force in research, innovation, and education.
