University of Sharjah Establishes Alumni Committee in Qatar

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The University of Sharjah (UoS) has officially launched its Alumni Association’s Executive Committee in Qatar, marking the creation of the eighth international chapter of the Association. This notable achievement underscores the University’s expanding global alumni presence and enhances its impact in educational and professional spheres.

The newly inaugurated chapter is designed to boost interactions among graduates globally while advancing the Association’s projects, plans, and community initiatives. The launch gathering took place at the National Museum of Qatar and saw participation from approximately 150 alumni based in Qatar, along with several graduates from the UAE.

The event was graced by key dignitaries, including Rashid Abdulrahman Al Ali, Chargé d’Affaires of the UAE Embassy in Qatar; Dr. Salah Taher Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs; Dr. Amal Al Ali, Director of the Alumni Association Office; Abdullah Saleh Al Shehhi, Consul and Head of Support, Consular, and Citizen Services; and Khamis Al Matrooshi, Specialist in Consular and Citizen Services, representing the UAE Embassy. Maryam Sultan Al Shamsi, Senior Alumni Officer, was also in attendance.

To foster collaboration, a joint alumni forum was organized with Qatar University, hosted on their campus. This forum featured panel discussions where graduates shared their success stories, demonstrating how their academic and professional experiences paved the way for achieving career aspirations and serving their nations. Topics also included opportunities for academic partnerships, knowledge exchange, and joint educational, research, and community service projects.

During their visit, the UoS delegation engaged in various community and academic activities. They toured the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), led by Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, President of UDST; Dr. Rashid Al Amri, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Najla Ibrahim Al Muhanna Al Naimi, Director of the Partnerships and Contracts Department; and Moza Al Kuwari, Business Expert. The delegation explored laboratories, research centers, and the College of Health Sciences, gaining insights into academic programs and educational technologies. The tour concluded with an exchange of commemorative trophies between the universities.

The group also visited the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar to seek further cooperation with local educational institutions.

Dr. Salah Taher Al Haj emphasized that the establishment of the Alumni Executive Committee in Qatar reflects the University of Sharjah’s ongoing commitment to strengthen its relationships with graduates and acknowledge their accomplishments. He highlighted that the initiative further aims to enhance academic collaborations with institutions in Qatar, aligning with the University’s goals of supporting community development on both local and international levels.

Dr. Amal Al Ali commended the hard work of the Association members in Qatar, acknowledging their contributions to the chapter's foundation and the welcoming of new members. She noted that alumni serve as ambassadors for the University and aid in fostering robust communication and collaboration within their communities.

The inauguration of the Qatar chapter signifies a pivotal move in UoS’s global outreach strategy, reinforcing the institution's dedication to encouraging alumni involvement, advancing education, and promoting both regional and global partnerships.
