Vietnam and Russia Enhance Economic Partnerships

Post by : Shakul

Vietnam and Russia have renewed their dedication to fostering deeper bilateral ties as high-ranking officials convened during the 29th Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc engaged Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and key figures from leading Russian firms to explore new avenues for economic advancement and strategic alliances.

During their discussions, Deputy Prime Minister Chernyshenko extended his congratulations to Pham Gia Tuc on his new role, recognizing Vietnam as a crucial ally for Russia in the Asia-Pacific region. He acknowledged the positive trajectory of the two nations’ relationship, emphasizing ongoing partnerships in areas like trade, energy, natural resources, tourism, culture, science, and education.

A significant part of the dialogue centered on advancing long-term strategic initiatives. The Russian delegation advocated for enhanced collaboration on pivotal projects, such as energy partnerships, scientific endeavors, educational exchanges, the Ninh Thuan 1 Nuclear Power Plant, and the Pushkin Russian Language Center. Both governments underscored their commitment to strengthening cooperation in sectors promising enduring economic benefits.

Pham Gia Tuc reiterated Vietnam’s resolution to enhance its comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia. He assured that the newly formed Vietnamese government would remain closely aligned with Moscow to effectively enact agreements established by senior leaders, while also branching into emerging sectors alongside reinforcing traditional collaboration areas.

Despite facing challenges in the global economy, both parties acknowledged positive trends in their bilateral trade and investment efforts. Two-way trade is anticipated to grow by 5.7 percent by 2025, with continued advancements in science, technology, innovation, and higher education. Cultural ties and tourism have also seen a boost, signifying stronger connections between the people of both nations.

The deputy prime ministers agreed to expedite preparations for upcoming high-level exchanges and the 26th session of the Vietnam-Russia Intergovernmental Committee, likely to occur in Vietnam in 2026. They also explored the potential finalization of a visa exemption agreement for group tourism, which is expected to facilitate increased travel and business operations.

In separate meetings with executives from VTB Bank, Novatek, and AFK Systema, Russian business leaders expressed optimism regarding Vietnam’s economic capabilities and future growth. Pham Gia Tuc welcomed their enthusiasm, reaffirming Vietnam’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for foreign investors. He highlighted that the success of international enterprises operating in Vietnam is integral to achieving the country's developmental aspirations and broader economic progress.
