During a significant national conference in Hanoi, Vietnam's Prime Minister Le Minh Hung emphasized that science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation are crucial for the country's future growth and economic resilience.
The Prime Minister joined the celebrations of Vietnam Science, Technology and Innovation Day on May 18, 2026, paired with discussions on Strategic Technologies. This event saw the participation of government officials, scientists, business leaders, university representatives, and international guests.
In his remarks, Le Minh Hung underscored the necessity for Vietnam to adeptly develop strategic technologies, enhancing national self-reliance and competitiveness within a fast-evolving global landscape. He referred to science and technology as the "golden key" to fulfilling the nation's long-term objectives.
The conference's discussions centered around executing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW and fostering strategic technologies under fresh governmental frameworks. Officials noted that innovation and digital transformation would serve as the backbone of Vietnam's emerging economic growth model.
Emphasizing the need for practical tech developments, Prime Minister Hung highlighted that strategic technology initiatives must yield commercially viable products, enhance localization, and boost labor productivity. He asserted that businesses, academic institutions, and research centers should be at the heart of the innovation ecosystem.
The government also urged for enhanced international partnerships, technology transfers from foreign investors, and the cultivation of skilled talent. Authorities are particularly focused on developing young scientists, AI specialists, and tech professionals.
At the conference, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan revealed plans to restructure 42 national programs into six major initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and resource management.
Different organizations showcased projects dedicated to advancements in fields such as AI, semiconductor technology, biotechnology, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and digital identification systems, all aimed at reinforcing Vietnam's technological autonomy.
Concluding the conference, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung called for collaboration among scientists, entrepreneurs, and tech firms to spur innovation and contribute to the vision of a prosperous, technology-driven Vietnam over the coming decades.
