WAKO World Kickboxing Championship Launches in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi gathered to unveil a spectacular inaugural ceremony for the WAKO World Kickboxing Championship for Seniors and Masters. This marks the inaugural hosting of the championship outside Europe, and notably, the first in the Middle East. Over 2,000 athletes from 150 countries have converged, making it one of the largest kickboxing competitions globally. The event is hosted by the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation in partnership with the World Association for Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO).

Delegations made their entrance at ADNEC Abu Dhabi in an atmosphere buzzing with excitement. The event underscored the UAE’s rise as a premier venue for international sporting events. Guests were treated to a spectacular showcase of the UAE’s progress and achievements, reflecting the nation’s pride.

The ceremony commenced with the UAE national anthem, followed by an impressive visual presentation of the country's accomplishments. An artistic display symbolised strength and unity, capturing the essence of sportsmanship and cultural harmony. Speeches from officials of the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation and WAKO articulated their excitement for the event. Athletes then participated in the parade of nations, officially commencing the competition.

Abdullah Saeed Al Neyadi, Vice President of the International Muay Thai Federation and President of the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation, emphasised the significance of hosting such a championship. He noted that welcoming talents from 150 nations exemplifies the UAE’s esteemed position in global sports. Al Neyadi remarked on the trust the international sports community places in the UAE’s hosting capabilities.

Roy Baker, WAKO President, commended Abu Dhabi for its exemplary hosting of the championship, noting that this event is WAKO’s largest to date and represents a pivotal moment in the promotion of kickboxing on the global stage. Baker further asserted that hosting the championship in the UAE exemplifies a benchmark for future international sports events.

The grand opening was witnessed by notable figures, such as Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and Nasser Al Tamimi, Secretary-General of the UAE Judo Federation. Board members of the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation, national sports federation heads, and international guests marked their presence. Their attendance underscored the championship's significance and the UAE’s position as a leader in global sports excellence.

The WAKO World Kickboxing Championship in Abu Dhabi exemplifies the UAE’s dedication to hosting international sporting events and fostering platforms for athletes worldwide. The championship not only promotes the sport of kickboxing but also enhances cultural exchange, friendship, and mutual cooperation among countries. This event embodies the UAE's vision to become a key global hub for sports and entertainment.
