The World Free Zones Organization (World FZO), based in Dubai, has confirmed that its 12th annual World Congress will be held in Panama City from May 12 to 14, 2026. This prominent event is set to draw more than 1,500 policymakers, business leaders, and high-ranking executives from free zones worldwide.
José Raúl Mulino, the President of Panama, will formally inaugurate the Congress, joined by notable figures like Bernardo Arévalo de León and Luis Abinader. Over 20 ministers and senior officials from various governments are also anticipated to participate, along with representatives from key international organizations.
Significant participants include Gerd Müller from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Wamkele Mene of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat, and Gilbert F. Houngbo from the International Labour Organization, among others.
The theme of the Congress is “Free Zones in the New Global Operating Model: Challenges and Opportunities.” The agenda will spotlight the pivotal role economic zones play in fostering international trade, attracting investments, and promoting sustainable development. Essential issues such as digital transformation, innovation, and sustainability will be thoroughly debated.
Co-organized with the Government of Panama, this event emphasizes Panama's significance as a trading and logistics center in the Americas.
Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Chairman of World FZO, remarked on the organization's evolution into a leading platform for economic zones since its inception in Dubai. He highlighted the Congress as a vital venue for influencing global trade strategies and advocating for sustainable growth.
He also underlined the necessity of innovation, digital transformation, and collaborative efforts to enhance the competitiveness of free zones. The Congress aims to serve as a forum for policy discussions, sharing expertise, and fostering partnerships.
The program will include ministerial roundtables, leadership streams, and panel discussions addressing topics like regional collaboration, investment frameworks, and green industrial initiatives. In-depth sessions will delve into advanced technologies including artificial intelligence, smart infrastructure, and digital trading frameworks.
Furthermore, special initiatives such as leadership training, investor meetings, and networking events will be arranged to facilitate collaboration and investment prospects.
The World Free Zones Organization connects free zones, special economic zones, and industrial parks with leaders from governments and businesses, all aimed at enhancing global trade, investment, and innovation while fostering sustainable economic advancement.
