The 12th annual Congress organized by the World Free Zones Organization took place in Panama City, themed “Free Zones in the New Global Operational Model: Challenges and Opportunities.” The focus was on how economic zones can facilitate trade, industrial expansion, and global integration.
Inaugurated by José Raúl Mulino alongside Luis Abinader and Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Chairman of the World FZO, the event attracted 27 ministers and over 2,000 participants from more than 70 nations, including CEOs, experts, and representatives from international organizations.
President José Raúl Mulino emphasized the importance of free zones in enhancing economic freedom, boosting global trade, and fostering national growth, highlighting that investment is crucial for economic advancement and increased purchasing power.
Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni identified Panama as a strategic hub for the Americas and a vital player in global trade and investment. He pointed out that shifts in geopolitics, technology, and regulatory landscapes underline the growing significance of free zones.
He elaborated on the impact of artificial intelligence in transforming customs procedures, logistics, compliance systems, and investor services. Addressing sustainability, he remarked that free zones have the potential to support green industries and sustainable production practices.
Dr. Al Zarooni further indicated that governments are increasingly viewing free zones as pivotal assets for stimulating innovation and sustainable growth rather than merely regulatory frameworks.
